The water version has a bit of a “fishy” taste which some don’t appreciate much. The advantage of this version is that it has the least calories and is the healthiest, as it has no oil in it… In a bowl of water, dissolve a bit of salt. Spread the sushi sheet with it’s bright side up. Dip a small brush in the water and brush half of the sheet. Sprinkle any added spice and fold it on itself. Place of a baking sheet. Repeat this with all of sushi nori sheets. Arrange the sheets on a oven pan so they are all spread out, don’t overlap. Bake in a prewarmed over to 120 Celsius, 250 Fahrenheit for about 10-12 min. About 5-6 min into baking turn them over so they turn out nice and crispy. If they are still pliable, leave them a few more minutes in the oven until they are perfectly crispy. The oil-water version is the best version in my opinion. It’s the perfect balance of tasty and healthy. The directions are the exact same steps of the water version, Except that after folding the sushi sheet a layer of oil is brushed over the top of the sheet. The oil used is a mixture of 1 part sesame oil and 3 parts olive oil. I bought small painting brushes which do this job in the best way. We continue the procedure in the same way as the water version. Only here the result is a bit different, they expand and create fun shapes. This is the version which resembles the bought shape the most. Oil version: this version is just brushing the nori sushi sheets with the oil mixture, sprinkle a bit of salt and spices and cover with another sheet of nori and continue with the exact same procedure as with the other versions. The flaxseed version. This is a bit messy but more satisfying and crunchy. The flaxseeds are mixed with 6-8 table spoons of water and left about 15 min to create a gel. To this mixture the sesame seeds and any spice is added. Place the nori sheet with tis bright side up and scoop one table spoon of gel on top of one half. Fold the sheet in half and use your hands or a rolling pin to spread the gel evenly between the folds. A warning is due, the gel can spread all over the place, on top and on the sides, That’s fine. Place the sheets on a baking sheet in a pan and into a preheated oven to 120 Celsius, 250 Fahrenheit. Bake for 25 min. Flip mid bake. Do not raise the heat even if you are impatient, Better leave them to dry a few more minutes and crisp up in the oven. You can now cut them to strips and enjoy. I learned this from this blogger, here is the link to her sweet Korian blog where makes those nori chips. Nori Chips
